Transitioning to Natural Deodorant

Transitioning to natural deodorant need not be scary. Before you take the step in reducing your bodies toxin intake here are a few little points you need to be conscious of:

  • You are going to go through a period of detox. This will vary person to person but you need to give yourself up to 6 weeks for your body to adjust and rid itself of the aluminium-filled sweat glands you’ve clogged up over the years.
  • You may experience excess sweating during the detox phase. This is completely normal and most people find once they’ve been using a natural deodorant for awhile they actually end up sweating less overall.
  • Your body odour will have its ups and downs until all is settled. It might be a good idea to go easy on high odour foods (eg. garlic) while you're transitioning.

Overall, patience is the biggest thing! Allow your body to do its thing and you’ll be left with the biggest reward at the end of the day!

Here are a few other tips that may help you during the transition journey:

1. Do an underarm detox!

The easiest way to speed up the detox process is to use a mask on your underarms. A clay style mask with detoxing ingredients like charcoal is a great one to try. This assists in removing built up aluminium and other toxic chemicals that have made home in your sweat glands. Use daily for up to a week for the best results.

2. Take it slow!

Our skin is slightly acidic so when we use a product that is alkaline we may have a little reaction. By starting slowly and gradually building up use it allows your underarms to adapt and not freak out!

Here is our version of taking it slow:

Day 1 - Apply the smallest amount (I mean small)

Day 2 - Have a deodorant free day

Day 3 - Apply another small amount

Day 4 - Apply another small amount

Day 5 - Have a deodorant free day

Day 6 - Apply a little bit more than previously

Day 7 - Use a small amount

Day 8 - Use what is needed and continue on being Bare + Free

Remember a little goes a long way so don’t get too excited and use too much.

4. Use an Antibacterial Wash

As it is the bacteria that causes body odours, using an antibacterial body wash will help to fully cleanse your skin and reduce any build up.
